Inpatient Oncology Unit
Oncology patients requiring admission to hospital will be admitted to C3, the Inpatient Oncology Unit located at the Juravinski Hospital. The admission may be for chemotherapy or radiation treatment or management of symptoms and/or side effects related to their treatment. The Inpatient Oncology Unit is a 28-bed unit in Section C on level 3 of the hospital. The length of stay for each patient will depend on their individual needs.
The Inpatient Oncology Unit provides services for Medical/Systemic Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Gyne-Oncology and Orthopedic Oncology. We also provides tertiary palliative care for patients whose needs cannot be met in another setting or facility. This may include management of an acute pain crisis, symptom management such as acute dyspnea (acute breathlessness) as well as for psycho-spiritual support.
An Oncology Therapeutic Arts program offered on the unit helps to provide diversion and humour to oncology patients during their hospitalization. This is supported through our team of volunteers who provide movies (comedy) and a loaner DVD player, transported to patients on our "Yuk Yuk Cart". We are also fortunate to have two therapeutic clowns who visit C3 inpatients as well as outpatients at JCC the weekly.
