Disease and Treatment Information

Canadian Cancer Society
The Canadian Cancer Society's website lets you look for information about specific cancers, prevention and screening, statistics, cancer research, nutrition and more.  Brochures and publications on a wide variety of topics can be downloaded from the website in many languages. 

Published by the National Library of Medicine in the US, Medline Plus offers cancer information. Interactive tutorials help explain treatments, tests and screening methods. 

National Cancer Institute
This US site is one of the most detailed sites on the web dealing with cancer information.  Find out about many types of cancer in their "What You Need to Know About..." series of booklets, as well as information about drugs and treatments, complementary and alternative therapies, coping and supportive care.

OncoLink established by University of Pennsylvania provides information about different types of cancer, cancer treatments and supportive cancer care topics such as nutrition, survivorship and coping. 

Cancer Backup
This UK site provides details on over 50 types of cancer, treatment, and support for patients and family members.  Their companion site called "What Now?" ( is an online community featuring blogs, discussion forums for patients and caregivers, and presentations designed to provide support and information.

Cancer Care Ontario
Cancer Care Ontario is the provincial agency responsible for improving cancer care.  The site includes information for patients, healthcare providers and the general public. The "Patient Library" includes documents, and an "Interactive Patient Journey" presentation outlines cancer information from prevention and screening through to diagnosis, treatment and beyond. 

Cancer View Canada
Cancer View Canada connects Canadians to online services, information and resources for cancer control.  It brings together resources for cancer prevention, screening, treatment and supportive, palliative and end-of-life care.

Supportive Care and Community Resources

This community based volunteer organization in Hamilton, Ontario is committed to helping cancer patient and their families through the crisis of cancer with patient service programs.

Wellwood Resource Centre
This community-based, non-profit organization in Hamilton, Ontario provides information, supportive care programs and peer support to people with cancer and for their families and caregivers.  All programs and services are free of charge.

Your Community Care Access Centre (CCAC) connects you with the care you need, at home and in your community.

Wellspring is a network of centres providing cancer support, education and coping skills to individuals, family members and professional caregivers across Canada free of charge.

Smokers' Helpline
Smokers' Helpine of the Canadian Cancer Society is a free, confidential service for smokers who want to quit, are thinking about quitting, have stopped smoking and need support, and for those who don't want to quit.

Juravinski Cancer Centre: Prevention and Screening
This section of the JCC website provides information about cancer screening and prevention, and provides links to the Ontario Breast Screening Program, the Ontario Cervical Cancer Screening Program, and Colon Cancer Check.

Canadian Cancer Society: Prevention
CCS provides information about screening and the importance of prevention, and what you can do to reduce your risk.  Links to articles and information in several different languages are also included.

BC Cancer Agency: Complementary and Alternative Cancer Therapies
The British Columbia Cancer Agency helps patients and their families find reliable information about complementary and alternative cancer therapies.

Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center: Integrative Medicine 
The Integrative Medicine Service at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center aims to compliment mainstream medical care and address the emotional, social, and spiritual needs of patients and families.

Nutrition & Wellness

American Institute for Cancer Research
This organization looks at the links between cancer and diet, and offers nutrition information and tools for prevention.

The Wellness Community: Nutrition for Wellness
This American site provides articles based on research to help lead to good nutritional habits and overall health and wellness.

CanWell (YMCA Program)
This Hamilton based program is a 12 week supervised exercise and education program for individuals who have been diagnosed with cancer at any stage of their cancer treatment. The program is run by the Y in partnership with McMaster University, Hamilton Health Sciences and the Juravinski Cancer Centre.


Family Caregiving 101
This US site provides information and support for caregivers.  A message board for discussion, and information about the various stages of caregiving and how to find help are also available.
Caring Connections
This American site provides resources and information to help people make decisions about end-of-life care and services.

National Family Caregivers Association
The National Family Caregivers Association educates, supports, empowers and speaks up for more than 50 million Americans who care for loved ones.

Princess Margaret Hospital provides this site for patients, caregivers and health care professionals who need information about palliative care. 

Canadian Virtual Hospice
The Canadian Virtual Hospice provides support and information about palliative and end-of-life care to patients, family members and health care providers.

Hospice Palliative Care Network (Hamilton Niagara Haldimand Brant)
This Hamilton Region based site provides information and support, and helps patients and family members connect to issues in palliative care throughout the community.

This non-profit organization seeks to help young adults dealing with cancer in Canada by providing inspiration, information and support.

Candlelighters Canada 
This charitable organization is dedicated to improving the quality of life for children with cancer and their families.

Aboriginal Cancer Care Unit, CCO
The Aboriginal Cancer Care Unit at Cancer Care Ontario works to improve cancer care for First Nations, Métis and Inuit people. It aims to  enhance access to culturally sensitive cancer services, support, and health education.
